Restoring a selected valid backup replaces the current copies of the data it contains, then restarts SoAI. Use it to recover a known-good instance state, not as a way to inspect a backup. The action overwrites current data and cannot be undone in the WebUI.
Prepare for a restore
- In the SoAI WebUI, select the Settings button at the right of the header, then select Settings from its menu and select Backup. This tab is available only to an Administrator with Backup administration (
BACKUP_ADMIN). - Create a new backup of the current state if you may need to return to it.
- Select Verify for the backup you intend to restore.
- Confirm that the entry shows Valid, then make sure users can tolerate an interruption while SoAI restarts.
The backup list shows each backup's ID, creation time, size, and validity. The Restore button is disabled for entries marked Invalid.
Restore the backup
- In Available backups, select Restore beside the valid backup.
- Read the confirmation. It explicitly warns that current data will be overwritten.
- Select Restore to start the task and leave the page open until its progress finishes.
- When the restore succeeds, SoAI starts its restart flow. Wait for the WebUI to become available again, then sign in and check the settings, plugin configuration, and user data you need.
SoAI disables the other backup actions while a backup operation is running. Do not start another backup, restore, verification, download, or deletion task until the current task reaches a result.
If a restore does not finish
The Backup tab reports a failed restore task instead of presenting it as complete. Do not retry immediately against
the same backup. Check the task result and confirm that the backup is still Valid. If you have
Log access (LOG_ACCESS), open
Logs from the Settings menu at the right of the header. Logs can also appear in the sidebar if
it has been added there. Use the operational runbooks to investigate disk space, permissions, or host failures. If
the backup is no longer valid, create or use a different verified recovery point.
What is restored
SoAI restores the files recorded in the selected backup's manifest. The target switches that are enabled now affect new backups; changing them does not add or remove content from an existing backup. Restore writes each recorded item to the current configured destination for that data type.
With factory target settings, a newly created backup contains the primary database, Core configuration, encryption key, plugin configuration, user data, and saved GPU settings slots. Logs are excluded by default. Review the target settings before creating a recovery point that must contain a particular data set.
